5 Ways to Prepare for Your First Legal Consultation

You will have to meet with your personal injury attorney for a consultation before they start working on your case.  Be prepared to meet remotely.  The purpose of this meeting is to decide whether you and the attorney will be a good fit for each other. There are several considerations  in determining if the two of you are a good fit for each other.

Write Down a List of Questions

Preparing for a meeting with an attorney is a lot like preparing for a doctor’s appointment. Many people prepare a list of questions that they want to ask the doctor. You should make a list of the questions that you want to ask your personal injury lawyer representing Philadelphia.

Use a notepad. You should also leave enough space in between the questions so that you can write down the answers.

Provide As Much Detail About Your Case As Possible

Your attorney needs to know everything about your case. Good and bad.  Even if you think that the information is trivial, it is still a good idea to provide that information to your attorney. You don’t have to worry about giving out sensitive details about your case because the attorney is required to keep them private. The only exception to this is by Court Order.

Gather All of the Necessary Documents

You should gather all information and documents that you think might help your case. This includes things such as cell phone texts, video, audio recordings, marriage certificates, and birth certificates. If you have court documents, then you will need to have that information also. It is a good idea for you to make a copy of everything that you turn over to your attorney.

Dress for Success

For in-person and virtual meetings, you should dress the same way that you would for a job interview or business meeting. You want to make sure that you make the right impression. Dressing the part will help you make a great first impression with your attorney.

Additionally, getting dressed up helps increase your confidence. You will feel like you are in control of the situation.
